Over the weekend I got really ambitious and decided to make a student dictionary- or Writing Word's Book! I used these when I taught second grade and loved them. I did not use them last year in first, and I wish I would have. It would have stopped- or discouraged- those lengthy trips to the word wall trying to find a word, only to hear, "Mrs. Durissssss the word isn't herrreeee." Little did I realize that making an alphabetical book would be so. dang. hard. Not until I went to print though! O.M.G. It took a solid hour to get everything where it needed to be... BUT! It's done now! Whoohoo!!!!
There is a section in the front just for common words such as:
Days of the Week
Months of the Year
How much easier does that make life? Seriously.
All of the words are based off of the Dolch list, and some are from the series we use from Harcourt. All the words are frequently used words though! On the letter pages there are Dolch words already there, and then lines to write in YOUR sight words!
When I make these for the kiddos I am going to put the cover on cardstock- just to help them last all year. Other than that, you just print double sided, but flipped on the SHORT EDGE! This way you don't have to do the old flip-a-roo when you're copying for the class!
