Grab your beverage of choice and settle in for another exciting round of Featured Teacher Tuesday!

This week our featured teacher is Amber Unger, a first grade teacher who shares real estate with the Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers, lots of cows, and many beer breweries.  Yep!  You guessed it; Amber is a proud educator in Wisconsin.  She is in her 7th year of teaching: 4 years in Kindergarten, 2 years in ESL, and 1 year in first grade so far.  Amber never thought she would find a grade level that made her happier than Kindergarten, but she quickly learned this school year that first grade is the place to be!

Her “home” away from home looks like this:

And she shares her real home with these cuties:

Amber has been blogging since 2011.  You will definitely want to stop by her blog, Mrs. Unger's Unbelievable Elementary Experiences, for years worth of great teacher tips, student-centered ideas, and fun photos!

Apples Apples EVERYWHERE!

Hi!!! I am coming to you bright and early on a Saturday morning. I have so much to do, but here I am writing a long overdue blog post. Just because I can! Oh the pleasures of being an adult. We are headed back to our hometown later today to visit my sister, her husband, and my ever growing cute little nephew Max! I am very excited to see them and their new home. Traveling does lend itself to a busy day though. I still have that term paper looming over my head, and not that I am finally finished with report cards that's the next big thing hovering overhead.
Well... Anyways, onto the fun! We were able to break away from our traditional text and study apples. It was SO fun!

Our week started off with a fun experiment seeing what would keep an apple from turning brown. We tested water, vinegar, lemon juice, and milk. I promptly forgot to take pictures, but in the end we found out the the lemon juice (even though it all dried up!) kept our apple from turning brown. We made observations, predictions, and tested hypothesis.

We also read about the seasons of an apple tree and then made awesome books!

These books were SO cute! I had these great tree cut outs and they had to show what the tree looks like at each stage of development. They also had to write one sentence on each page about what was happening.  I am SO proud of my kiddos for doing such a great job on them!

We taste tested apples to see if we preferred green or red, and made apple diagrams to label all of the parts of an apple. Check out their awesome writing!

Towards the end of the week we made apple sauce! We watched how apples turned from a solid to a liquid and learned about measuring and mashing!

It was SO much fun! To end our week we conducted our final experiment... Do apples sink or float??? And guess what, they float! We found out by Bobbing for Apples!

We had the BEST week! Teaching like this reminds me why I got into teaching. We were able to do so many fun things that made meaningful connections with each student. Apples got me really excited for... BATS!

Apples! and Feature Teacher Tuesday

Hi Friends! Welcome!
I am sorry I have kinda of MIA. This school year is kicking my butt. We have been SO busy with conferences, report cards, field trip business, AND I am finishing up this semester for grad school. YUCK! I have ants in my pants to get back to business though! This week we are ALL about apples in my classroom! We are doing apple diagrams, apple books, apple facts, apple experiments, and all that fun stuff! I have two really great apple resources that I wanted to share with you incase you were getting into apples too!

I cannot wait to show you all of the awesome things we do with apples this week!!

I am also here to talk about Feature Teacher Tuesday!
Liana Davis from Love Learning with Liana is living her dream as a first grade teacher. All her life, she has dreamt of teaching little kids to dream big and love learning, and her dream has been a reality for 4 years now! She teaches with the core concept of providing social justice to students that were just like her when she was a child. An immigrant, a non-native English speaker, and from a family that lived modestly.  She knows that every student has the capacity to learn, and she harnesses that ability to see her students shine. To read more about her teaching philosophy, you can read it here!

Only two of her 4 years teaching have been in first grade, but she couldn’t imagine teaching anything else. She loves the unscripted feel of first grade.  Besides first, she has also taught Kindergarten, and high school English.

Liana is also a newlyed, and she got married in January 2015 to her college/bible study sweetheart.  Check out some pictures from her dreamy wedding here!  At that time, she was teaching high school English, and she didn’t spend quite as much time cutting, pasting, and creating fun activities for a primary classroom.  With so much free time on her hands, March 2015, she decided to sell on TPT. She was always creating products for her classroom, and she thought why not share them with the world!

If you know Liana, then you know that she never sits still, much like every other teacher who takes on the task of teaching full time, blogging about it, and creating products for Teachers Pay Teachers. To find Liana’s store, click here!
Other than teaching, blogging, and TPT, she loves to spend time with her family in Los Angeles, and explore her new city with her new husband in San Diego.

Liana’s most popular product is the Book Report for Grades 1-3!
Her latest two products are Unit 2: Addition Math Printables

Feature Teacher Tuesday

Hi! The #Firstgradetribe wanted to create a new blog linky, Feature Teacher Tuesday! I am so excited for think link up and to learn about some awesome first grade teachers out there!

This week’s featured teacher is Samantha Gibby and Lisa Fain they are the Primary Sisters!

Just like their name says, they are two sisters who teach first grade at the same school in a small town in NC. They feel so blessed to get to teach with each other every day. Their TpT adventure began last summer. As they were sitting in a hot tub at the Outer Banks, they began to think of resources they needed to best compliment Words Their Way Spelling Instruction. You can check out some of the their short vowel word work packs in their TPT Store.

Since July they have been busy creating products, and they said no one told them how addicting it can be. Especially when colleagues come in and say, okay this is great, thanks for making this! Even though they are far from their first TpT million, the excitement of creating materials that meet their students needs has been the force that keeps them going. Samantha and Lisa are married and both have 3 children. Their oldest sons are in college at NCSU and Appalachian State, but they are still busy with their other teenagers who cheer and play football for their local high school. They enjoy being active in their churches, traveling, feeding the football team each Friday night and surfing the internet. They feel so blessed to be on this awesome journey and are thankful for the wonderful teacher friends they are making along the way.
These sisters are always looking for ways to make learning fun and hands on.
One of their newest products is a Halloween themed Boo game working  with sight words and math printables working with sums up to 12.
Check them out here!

Enjoy these flash freebies. Students will love these hands on CVC word wheels!

AND Sight word Roll, Say, Keep! is a great addition to any literacy station!
