Teacher Gifts

What do I get my kid's teacher for Christmas?
I get asked this question all the time!

And let me preface this by saying, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GET YOUR KID'S TEACHER A GIFT! It is so kind and sweet, but not necessary.
For those of you who are overachievers and want to treat your teachers with a gift here are a few things to think about:
1. How well do you know your child's teacher? Do you know what they like/dislike?
2. What does your child know about their teacher? You would be surprised how well your child knows their teacher! We spend all day together and learn a lot about each others preferences and dislikes.
3. Think about things that are appropriate!

Now... onto the fun stuff!

1. Starbucks (or other local coffee shop) gift card.
This is #1. Most teachers love coffee. Or tea. Or both. Or sweets, muffins, breakfast sandwiches, tumblers, etc...Coffee shop coffee is expensive, and I don't know if you know this or not, but teaching doesn't pay much. Treating your child's teacher to a latte on you will certainly warm their heart.

2. Target or Amazon Gift Card
I mean. Do I need to explain this? and $10 will do. Any gift is so so kind and thoughtful. Plus, this will let the teacher either purchase something for themself, or something for the classroom.

3. Anything off of this teacher wish list.
These are all items that teachers use day in and day out. We can always use more classroom supplies, and this way these items don't need to come out of the teacher's pocket. We buy so much for our classroom and students, any little bit helps!

4. A book to donate to the classroom library.
Classrooms can always use more books! I have never heard a teacher say, "I have too many books." It's just not possible. Not sure where to start? HERE is a great list to get you started.

5. Gift card for a manicure/pedicure!
What a great way to say treat yourself! These are always SO SO nice! Mani/pedis are luxuries in the teacher world- because hello $$$$. But, even $20 towards one helps soften the blow!

Something your child made or wanted to get for us. Like I said before, your kids know us better than we think. We love thoughtful things and want to let your child express their love!

Here is a a list of things to NOT buy your child's teacher:

  • Alcohol- yes, it's funny, but not appropriate. Some teachers don't drink, and then it's just a waste.
  • Another coffee cup (unless it's a nice thermos). We have plenty.
  • Religious specific items. Not all teachers are religious, or celebrate the same holidays that you do.
  • Ornaments- see above
  • Cheesy gifts that even you know will end up in the garbage- that's just wasting your money and we don't want you to do that.
Please know that teachers in no way expect gifts, and are thankful for any gifts they do receive! I hope this list helps guide you along on your holiday blunders!

Happy Shopping!
